Us

How We Met
We have Erin Fallon Ingram (one of Kara's college roommates) and Dan Debrunner (one of Carl's college roommates) to thank for introducing us--where would we be if those two hadn't become great friends working together at the Indian Hill Swim Club in high school? We met the day when both of us returned back to Columbus from winter break during Kara's freshman year at Ohio State and Carl's sophomore year at CCAD. Kara was looking for apartments with Erin and Amanda, and the three of us stopped by 1478 Belmont where Dan and Carl lived to say hi to Dan. Carl was playing Mario Tennis in the living room. He half looked up when Dan introduced Kara and Amanda, finished his match, stood up, and walked out of the room barely mumbling a word. Fortunately we had opportunities to hang out many times after, and it was the first and last time Carl had nothing to say to Kara.

The Proposal
Kara did many very sweet things for Carl the morning of his 30th birthday, and he was surprised and quite touched. After work, we went to eat tacos and decided to spend the night on our balcony in our somewhat new Karlfornia apartment. We were pining for Chicago so shared some Sofie. We'd talked about going to Sonoma the next day and staying the night, and being the procrastinating poor planners that we are, Kara had just started looking for hotels that evening, without much luck. It was getting late and Carl told Kara that he wanted to tell her some things. He started saying sweet stuff, which Kara just thought was a thank you because of all the super nice things she'd done for his birthday. It took a turn to the serious, and this is where Kara no longer remembers anything except for lots of tears and happiness because of the shock and true surprise. Thankfully Carl has a Google doc of everything he said to her.
